Talkbox Inventor and Ham Enthusiast Bob Heil Passes Away

Amy Beckham | Published on 3/8/2024
Robert "Bob" Heil, of Belleville IL, passes away.

Perhaps more widely known for his sound engineering expertise, and equipment that was years before it's time, Bob Heil was also no stranger to ham radio. As the founder of Heil Sound, Bob's audio experience and know-how raised the bar for what was acceptable for good sounding voice communication on amateur radio.

Bob was also the recipient of the 2019 RCA Alfred Grebe Award, which recognizes significant achievements of excellence in the engineering and manufacturing of radio equipment. Unfortunately, he was unable to travel to NYC to receive his award in person.

There are many stories about Bob and his equipment "saving" the Grateful Dead, or The Who, or launching Peter Frampton's career. Read some of them HERE, or listen to this interview conducted by QSO Today
