Tom Sorley Memorial Fund

Tom Sorley, an RCA member with a deep impact on the public safety community, passed away unexpectedly in 2018 at the age of 53.  We invite you to donate to the RCA Tom Sorley Memorial Fund set up in his memory.

About Tom Sorley

Tom was chairman of the PSAC (Public Safety Advisory Committee) of FirstNet, which provided input to the FirstNet Board of Directors on the needs of the public safety community.  Tom served as the Deputy CIO & Deputy Director IT Public Safety for the City of Houston, Texas. While there, he spearheaded the $130 million Houston P25 system, led a city-county interoperability initiative and played a key role in the city’s communications system recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.  Tom was also Chair of NPSTC’s Technology Committee for many years.

Before joining the City of Houston, Tom was the Public Safety Communications Manager for Orange County, Florida.  Tom was a member of SAFECOM and NPSTC and served in the Florida and Texas APCO chapters with distinction.  He was an APCO Life Member and received the NPSTC Richard DeMello Award in 2017.  Tom dedicated his entire life to public safety communications, and everyone who worked with him said that he always went the extra mile.  His presence in the public safety communications community is greatly missed.
